Never off tour, Creeper are back in Manchester. Not that anyone minds, though. It’s become a bit of stale bit to laud them with praise, but the sentiment remains true. Even if last year’s Sanguivore II: Mistress Of Death was a notable step down from the first installment, Creeper’s floor is so high that you’d hardly notice in the wider rock ecosystem. And regardless of which of their bow’s strings they’re playing—punk; gothic rock; hard rock; Americana; whatever else—they have a habit of smashing it. And thus, with genre-agnostic alt stars Calva Louise and fast-rising glam-rockers Starbenders in tow, tonight’s show at the Academy is no different. Will Robinson went to catch it all.
