The stars of today’s tech-metal crowd are unequivocally Jinjer. Theirs is a rise that’s never seemed to slow, experiencing an even more noticeable spike with last year’s Duél being their best release to date. But more than that, Jinjer’s presence in metal continues to hold more weight than most. Since 2022, they’ve served as cultural ambassadors for their native Ukraine, receiving permission from the Ministry of Culture to continue touring amid Russia’s invasion. For as disposable as tech-metal often feels, a presence like Jinjer’s is imperative—an act that can not only fly the flag for what the genre can do at its best, but hold real-world significance while doing so.
