In a not-insignificant quotient of queer indie-pop-rock, it’s currently The Beaches’ turn for a moment in the sun. They released their album No Hard Feelings last year to a lot of praise, with a vibe evoking ‘80s New Romanticism that they capture excellently. It’s a nice step at deepening the foothold that came from 2023’s Blame Brett, the viral single that, on its own, would be no guarantee of longevity. Thankfully, they’ve springboarded in spectacular fashion, now arriving in Manchester as the next step of their UK tour. Ben Whitehurst headed down to check it out.
