In the early 2010s, The Vaccines were the British indie band. You might even identify them as the first beneficiaries (and subsequent casualties) of the whole indie boom-and-bust cycle. Right now, they’re a far cry from what they were; back then, they were inescapable. That’s all thanks to their 2011 debut What Did You Expect From The Vaccines?, the kind of punchy indie release that, compared to many a wave to follow, really is timeless in how it hits. Clearly plenty of others think so too, given the response of this 15th anniversary tour. The album gets played in full with some additional hits added to the end, i.e. a night that precisely zero fans of The Vaccines would object to. As they arrive in Manchester’s O2 Victoria Warehouse, Ben Whitehurst headed over to check it out.
