For another year, Way Out West looks to establish itself as one of the cream of the crop for European festivals. It certainly has the lineup for it, with an ever-eclectic mix of rock, indie, pop and electronic music descending upon Gothenburg across its three days. The xx’s long awaited live return continues to thrill, paving the way for new music for one of the most seminal electro-indie acts of the modern age. Meanwhile, Lily Allen continues her campaign for West End Girl, attracting more fervour than she’s had in ages. Finally, a deep well of indie-rock and punk’s current and perennial heavy-hitters take the stage in Geese, Lambrini Girls, Jehnny Beth and The Hives, while Jacob Alon’s bid as one of the rising stars of the moment is still in fine stead. Alan Brown headed to Sweden to check it out.
