The way that Citizen have regained their footing and justified their longevity once more has been incredibly satisfying to watch. New album Halcyon Blues was such a return to form, almost entirely scrubbing away 2023’s lacklustre Calling The Dogs and bringing their emo magic back in spades. It’s good to see that represented with a sizable tour, too. Citizen aren’t the sort of band to take the most giant leaps upward, but Manchester’s Academy 2 is exactly the right room for a band of their current stature. (A darker-than-preferred room tonight, but suitable nonetheless.) Will Robinson headed down to check it out.
