The level that The Chats have reached really has just come out of nowhere. Headlining 2000trees this year might have felt like a leap at the time, but they’ve certainly been keeping up appearances to justify it. You can attribute some of that to having a legit viral hit under their belt in Smoko, though that’s not a reliable measure of momentum that seems this unflappable. Rather, they seem to just have an it-factor that their similarly grotty, unkempt Aussie punk compatriots don’t. Where most seem comfortable to hold firm and rattle around their predetermined area, The Chats’ growth is actually quite nice to see. With the size of venues they’re occupying on this headline run, clearly others feel the same.

They’re joined by Rifle and The Prize for a hearty, (un)healthy night of punk raucousness, and our photographer Kate Nesbitt headed over to Liverpool’s Invisible Wind Factory to catch the action.
