Between The Jesus Lizard at the very start of the year and the Melvins now, Bristol has been pretty spoiled for noise-rock legends stopping by in 2025. Of course, the Melvins have been significantly more prolific over the years, with this tour in support of Thunderball, their 28th studio album. And for a band who’ve been around with no breaks since 1983, they’ve definitely still got it, whether it’s in talismanic frontman Buzz Osborne; the fact that they’re back to having two drummers in this live incarnation; or simply the walls upon walls of sludge and noise they push out, not dulled or diluted after more than four decades of operation. With fellow long-lived alt-rock weirdos Redd Kross in tow, it’s a memorable time as always for being classically off-kilter, as Ross Peacey headed down to catch.
