As polarising as grandson’s music can be, his reputation and ethos really seem to have struck a chord across the board. His is the exact sort of outspoken, openly progressive stance that punk is founded on, and though it sometimes lacks a truly killing blow, the intent still matters. It feels like the driving force behind grandson’s ascent, and the ingredient that gives a modern rap-rock outfit the impetus to land in venues like Manchester’s Academy. No doubt a grander statement is on the cards, but with alt-metal crossbreeders Pinkshift in tow, this still feels pretty significant. Will Robinson headed down to check it out.
