Back in his days of Merseybeat revivalism with The Coral, you might have never expected Bill Ryder-Jones to end up here. It seems as though he’s done everything possible to raise his stock as a musician, from solid production credits, to dabble in more reputable folk and melancholic palettes, to enriching those works with a more ornate, arranged feel. In other words, he’s the kind of artist for whom a show in a church in Stockport would seem right up his alley. Off the back of the universal acclaim of his last album Iechyd Da in 2024, it’s set up to be something pretty special indeed. Dean Cavanagh headed down to check it out.
