At a point when R&B and soul are enjoying a considerable push, it only seems right to group Jalen Ngonda amongst it. He’s been going from strength from strength lately, between the acclaim for his album Doctrine Of Love this year, to a packed-out headline set in his adopted Liverpool home for Sound City back in May. The charts might not be beckoning him just yet, but the grassroots swell he’s been enjoying for a good while can’t be ignored. A nice, big show in Manchester’s Academy seals that, bringing along fellow R&B fast-riser Brooke Combe to begin the wind-down on an undoubtedly successful year. Dean Cavanagh headed down to check it all out.
