PHOTOS: Chat Pile & Oathbreaker – Arctangent Festival 2026

For its final year at Fernhill Farm, Arctangent Festival remains the place to be for progressive and avant-garde music in 2026. The spread really is impressive, spanning legends in the field to cutting-edge newcomers, to the niche favourites that you’d never find on any other major festival lineup. And amid all of that, you’ve got some of the most exciting bands around right now. In this case, there’s Chat Pile, the noise-rock / sludge visionaries whose upcoming new album Who Loves The Sun is such a one-of-a-kind monolith of a record. There’s also Oathbreaker, Belgium’s post-black wunderkinds making their return after a near-decade hiatus for a set that feels among this weekend’s most momentous. Neither band overlap that much, but both wear the feral, uncompromising excitement that Arctangent does so well to foster. Ross Peacey headed down to check it out.
