It should probably go without saying, but Liverpool’s Cathedral isn’t usually the standard venue of choice for a pop music show. Not that it couldn’t be; it’s spacious with genuinely lovely architecture that, given the right production, could really elevate the artist performing there. In this case, it’s James Morrison, whose temperate, fairly easygoing work might just be the best fit imaginable. It’s not unfair to say that he’s not the most commercially beloved artist anymore, but this is the kind of show that can really bring out his strengths, and rather readily at that. Softer, temperate pop-rock really can excel in an environment like this, as captured by Maryleen.
