Put the right audience onto spill tab, and there’s next to no chance of her not blowing up, even more than she’s already primed to. In this vein of approachable, relatable, Gen-Z bedroom- / indie-pop singer-songwriters, they’ve never been a difficult commodity to sell, and Claire Chicha already seems well on her way towards it. Over 600,000 monthly Spotify listeners is a statistic that speaks for itself, as does the embrace of her upbringing in Paris that provides a critical deviation point from how similar so much of this music can seem. Her debut full-length Angie has just been released, and the Bristol stop on her UK tour being in Rough Trade might be one of the smaller spaces in which you’ll catch Chicha for the foreseeable future. Ross Peacey headed over to catch the rise in progress.
