PHOTOS: Sigrid – Rough Trade, Liverpool – 30/10/2025

There’s something inherently more compelling about an underdog pop star. Sigrid has had crossover success, sure, but far from the level of household names to whom fame and fortune is a natural extension of their persona. Therefore, an instore run for her third album There’s Always More That I Could Say has multitudes of appeal—a) a mainstream presence coming down to this level has an inherent thrill, and b) it’s an environment than a more humble, oft-indie-skewed voice can really thrive in.

In Liverpool’s Rough Trade, both are true. A wide demographic of ages is a very ‘pop star’ crowd to net; at the same time, the vibe is much looser and more chilled. Sigrid’s own descriptor of “cosy” couldn’t be more apt (and not just because of the warmth in her), where she’ll regularly take the time to regale stories or go off on tangents about her more recent time in the UK. You wouldn’t have, say, Sabrina Carpenter talking about going on Sunday Brunch to guess how many episodes of EastEnders specific characters had been on. It overflows with charm, held together by Sigrid being a strong performer, even acoustically. Her work solidly translates to that setting, especially brought down even further to just piano, and the pin-drop silence it can foster.

It’s all memorable and likable without fail, an attitude that’s often been applicable to Sigrid as a whole. With her instore run now coming to an end, next year’s proper run only entices more after this taster session. Maryleen headed over to Rough Trade to catch it all.
