You may write off Lord Huron as one-hit wonders (and you might not necessarily be wrong in that assessment), but you can’t argue with the magnitude of that hit. The Night We Met has become a phenomenon unto itself, a swooning, soft-focus slow-burner that’s made a claim as a perennial global hit, and most pertinently for this run, getting a solid foothold in the UK. At the time of writing, it’s in the UK’s Top 100 this week, despite first releasing in 2015 and finding its feet attached to 13 Reasons Why in 2017. It’s inarguably the tentpole of Lord Huron as a mainstream entity, but albums of moody, evocative indie-folk-rock have really done a lot to keep them at impressively high heights. As their UK tour rolls into Manchester, Ben Whitehurst headed down to check it out.
