For as scornful as the label of ‘TikTok artist’ can often be, it’s not like Del Water Gap hasn’t parlayed it to legitimate successes. Two-million-strong monthly streams on Spotify is nothing to sniff at, nor are support slots with the likes of Halsey, Niall Horan and Maggie Rogers. His is the sort of indie-pop that’s almost been birthed for commercial success, while retaining enough of an insular, personal angle to have a bit of presence to it still. And with his UK tour bringing him to the sizable stage of Manchester’s Academy, it looks as though his efforts are continuing to pay off. Ben Whitehurst went to check it out.
