It’s almost blindsiding how popular SKYND turn out to be. You’d never presume it on its face, with two EPs to their name (the last of which came out all the way back in 2019) and a load of singles since that, if you’re not in the know, have barely registered. And yet, on their first of just two UK dates on this European tour, they arrive to a sold-out crowd and no support act, as if to reinforce their own magnitude. It’s unexpected, but it doesn’t take long to work it out. Alt-metal and nu-metal inspired by true crime and serial killers would have specific subsets foaming at the mouth on pitch alone. Add on their enigmatic, eponymous frontwoman, and SKYND certainly feel like a magnetic prospect in the current scene. And that’s absolutely going to plan, too, as seen by Will Robinson in Manchester.
