You really don’t get more ‘cult classic’ than The Twilight Sad. Since their debut in 2007, that’s been an immutable characteristic of their existence, even drawing in a certain Robert Smith (he of The Cure fame, FYI) who would proclaim them to be his “favourite band in the world”. A big accolade indeed, and while there hasn’t been mainstream momentum springboarding from that, The Twilight Sad’s gothic indie-rock and post-punk has lived and thrived in its own little corner of alternative music. Their most recent album It’s The Long Goodbye released a couple of months ago to expected acclaim, cementing the beloved legacy of The Twilight Sad as their work often does. This current UK tour feels like a celebration of that, caught by Maryleen at Manchester’s New Century Hall.
