It’s been 40 years since The Lemonheads formed, and to see them still going strong is a genuine surprise. They could’ve easily been steamrolled in the same manner as a lot of slacker-ish alt-rock with a ‘90s heyday, but not so. Last year’s album Love Chant was really strong, and another—a tribute to your favourite’s favourite singer-songwriter Townes Van Zandt—is already pencilled in for early next year. Their creative arrow seems to be going in whichever direction it wants, which, for long-running staples like this, is usually a good thing. And as their extensive UK tour arrives in Bristol to make the most of their momentum, Ross Peacey headed down to check it out.
