What a day to be a fan of Irish post-punk in Manchester! A brand new Fontaines D.C. album and a big show from Gurriers, both on the same day? It’s like Christmas two months early!
It’s great to see Gurriers at a level like this already, even with so much so much stiff competition. Nobody’s Coming To Save You was such a strong album, and the fact that it’s caught on so much really speaks to the shifting tide in indie and alternative music. Gurriers are among the most fortunate beneficiaries of it, with flecks of noise-rock that, in a time of more conservative taste, would go ignored by general audiences completely. But here they are in New Century Hall, preparing for what will no doubt be an even more momentous 2027 for them. Ben Whitehurst headed down to check it out.
