It’s been a busy time for Orla Gartland lately. Her band Fizz put out their debut album towards the end of 2023; a year later, Gartland’s own album Everybody Needs A Hero was released. And yet, she remains one of those indie-pop singer-songwriters whose name you might have heard in passing, but the music is for those in the know. If you are in the know, you’ll be privy to some pretty acclaimed stuff, hence this current tour that sees Gartland arrive in Manchester’s Albert Hall. A venue like that really can elevate a performer when factors converge in the right way, and there’s honestly no reason to presume any different tonight. With a lot of promise (amplified by the song-choosing wheel for an additional bit of fun chance), our photographer Dean Cavanagh headed down to check it out.
